How it Works
The Core and the Die are components of the extrusion head used since the 1970s in Blow Moulding Machines to vary the thickness of the plastic material, but the profile of the extruded material can only be modified longitudinally. In our 3DX system, the Core and Die are Flexible Rings made with a special alloy which can be deformed during extrusion by 1, 2, 4 or more actuators either hydraulic or electric, depending on the needs.
Advantages of the deformable ring system
Material Saving – Remove material from areas it’s not needed. On some parts this can reduce weight by more than 10%.
Faster Cycle Time – Thick sections take much longer to cool. Eliminating them enables you to open the mold sooner.
Tighter Specifications – If you’re setting the weight of the molding to achieve a minimum wall thickness in specific places then you’re probably wasting material in other places.
Reduced Distortion – Thick sections shrink more than adjacent thin areas which causes distortion and ‘paneling’ Our 3DX gives you the control needed to eliminate the problem.
Increased Strength – Excessive wall thickness is one of the most common cause of drop test failure as thinner sections have the ability to absorb energy, like the ‘crumple zones on an automobile.
S1/3DX One Drive
The 3DX One drive is the perfect solution for packaging containers.
The flexible ring is pulled and sqeezed equally in both sides by only one actuator placed in the back. The narrow shape allow installations in multicavities extrusion heads and the reduced cost allow a payback time even lower than the S2/3DX.
The combination with our SDC Deformable Core guarantee the maximum performance in thickness control.
S2/3DX Deformable Die Ring with 2 actuators
The S2/3DX is the standard solution for packaging starting from 20 liters and technical parts.
The flexible ring is pulled and sqeezed by 2 actuators placed opposite, the programmer profile has typically the same shape but adjustments can be done in case of complex shapes. The combination with our SDC or our S2DC Deformable Core guarantee the maximum performance in thickness control.
S4/3DX Deformable Die Ring with 4 actuators
The S4/3DX is tipically used for large containers ( for instance IBC containers ) the flexible ring is pulled and sqeezed by 4 actuators placed 90° one each other, the programmer profile has typically the same shape but adjustments can be done in case of complex shapes.
The combination with our SDC or our S2DC Deformable Core guarantee the maximum performance in thickness control.
SDC Statically deformable Core
Complementary to our 3DX deformable die ring, the SDC device enables you to shape the inner tooling to the ideal profile for jerry cans and other non-round shapes. This device enables the profile to be optimized simply by setting a series of screws.
The flexible section is made of the same special material we use on the dynamically deformable die, so the shape always returns to its round condition if the adjusting screws are loosened.
The SDC is available as a standalone device without the dynamically deformable 3DX system.
S2DC Double Action Statically deformable Core
The S2DC is an evolution of the SDC, once the SDC has only one row of screws and is able only to push the internal flexible ring against the die reducing the gap the S2DC has 2 rows of screws and can also pull the ring increasing the gap between die and core.
This system can be very helpful in complex shapes ( for instance automotive parts ) and allow a more precise adjustment of the final thickness.
The S2DC is available as a standalone device without the dynamically deformable 3DX system.
